Brace Yourself Games wins 4 awards at the 2020 Canadian Game Awards

Receiving 8 nominations at the 2020 Canadian Game Awards is a huge cause for celebration, and it’s even sweeter when walking away with some wins. Brace Yourself Games did just that, and won big with 4 awards for their work on Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer Feat. The Legend of Zelda.

If you’re not familiar with Brace Yourself Games, you better start paying attention because they’re emerging as a big time player in the indie scene. This Vancouver-based independent game studio earned the trust of Nintendo by adapting The Legend of Zelda franchise into a version of their massive hit Crypt of the NecroDancer, the 2015 roguelike rhythm game which was itself critically acclaimed.

Brace Yourself Games followed their magic formula and adapted the staple Crypt of the NecroDancer gameplay to fit the world of Hyrule, and the result was spectacular. The studio earned 8 nominations at the 2020 Canadian Game Awards, namely:

  • Best Game Design (won)
  • Best Console Game (won)
  • Best Indie Game (won)
  • Game of the Year (won)
  • Best Score/Soundtrack
  • Best Narrative

With Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer Feat. The Legend of Zelda coming up big at the CGAs, is it possible that Brace Yourself Games can continue to release other Nintendo themed roguelite rhythm games under this banner? We certainly hope so.
